Founders Trivia Contest Official Rules

  1. Entry Period. The 2014 Founders Celebration Facebook Trivia Contest will run from Oct. 27 through Nov. 14, 2014.
  2. Eligibility. Contest is open to UC San Diego students, staff (excluding staff members of UC San Diego University Communications and Public Affairs), faculty, alumni and campus friends. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. By participating in the contest, entrants agree to comply with these official rules, the sponsor’s interpretation of them and the decisions made by the sponsor in matters relating to the contest. By participating in the contest, entrants release and hold harmless the sponsor against any and all claims, injury or damage arising out of or relating to participation in this contest and/or use or misuse or redemption of a prize.
  3. To Enter.  Trivia questions will be posted to the UC San Diego Life Facebook page (http://facebook.com/UCSanDiegoLife), beginning Oct. 27 and periodically through Nov. 14, 2014.  Each posted question will also identify the specific prize that is associated with that question.  Once a question is posted, you have a maximum of 24 hours to attempt to provide the correct answer to that question in the comments section of the page post. (Note: You will need to create a Facebook account if you don’t already have one. Membership on Facebook is free; register at http://facebook.com.)  By providing a comment, you agree to these official rules. You must follow the UC San Diego Life Facebook page to see the winners announcement and if you have won, to receive notification. Only one entry per person per trivia question. All entries become property of the sponsor. All entries must comply with the Facebook Terms of Service. Creating multiple Facebook accounts in order to exceed the limits on entries permitted by these rules may result in disqualification of all entries from such accounts.
  4. NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO ENTER.
  5. Prize Winners Selection/Notification. The contest will consist of 15 trivia questions, each posted on a different day. The first question will be posted during the week of Oct. 27. Subsequent questions will be posted periodically thereafter through Nov. 14, 2014. The first participant to answer each trivia question correctly in the comments section of the post will win the corresponding contest prize.  There will be only one winner for each trivia question that is posted. Winners will be notified within 24 hours of the question being posted.  Winners will be notified via a post from the UC San Diego Life Facebook page in the comments section of the trivia question post; winners will be asked to send a private message to the page with name, email and phone number to be added to the list of contest winners. If the potential winner does not respond within 24 hours of being notified, the potential winner may, in the University’s sole discretion, be disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected.
  6. Prizes. The winners will each receive one $25 gift card to one of the following campus locations: Home Plate, Perks or Porter’s Pub. The gift card prize will vary each week; the prize will be announced with the trivia question each week during the contest period. Winners must pick up their prize at the Chancellor’s Office on the UC San Diego campus. Prizes will not be mailed or otherwise distributed.  The odds of winning a prize depend upon the total number of participants.
  7. General Terms. Contest is void where prohibited by law. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest. Entrants agree to indemnify and hold harmless the sponsor from any and all liability resulting or arising from the contest, to release all rights to bring any claim, action or proceeding against the sponsor, and hereby acknowledge that the sponsor has neither made nor is in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prize. Facebook is not a sponsor of the contest, and is in no way responsible for the administration of the contest.
  8. Sponsor. Contest is sponsored by the University of California, San Diego as part of the campus’s 2014 Founders Celebration.
  9. Disputes. The exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any disputes arising from this contest will be the courts located in San Diego County, California. In all cases, sponsor’s liability shall be limited to the value of one prize (i.e., a $25 gift card).
